Ultrastructure of the cell
You should be able to:
- Identify and describe cells and cell types.
- Identify and describe the components of cells and sub-cellular organelles.
- Identify and describe the stages of mitosis, meiosis, and the cell cycle.
- Explain the concept of stem cells.
- Describe the functions of the cells, their organelles, mitosis, meiosis and stem cells.
- Explain the difference between the terms necrosis, apoptosis, holocrine, merocrine, apocrine, exocrine and endocrine.
- Identify and explain cellular adherence structures.
Ultrastructure of the cell tasks
- On the next double page in your workbook:
- Make an annotated drawing of a combined typical animal cell.
- Add the functions of each element in your drawing.
-
- On the next double page in your workbook:
- Make an annotated drawing of the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis.

Calibration
- Make a list of all the components comprising a typical animal cell.
- Make a drawing of each of the listed components.
- Give the function of each listed component.
- Test if you are able to recognise each of these components in a diagram AND a photograph.
- Describe the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis and how these are connected.
- Test if you are able to recognise each of the phases of mitosis and meiosis in a diagram AND a photograph.
