Slide 58: Gallbladder

H/E

This specimen is a section through the gallbladder.

Identify microscopically:

  1. Lumen of the gallbladder

  2. Simple columnar epithelial cells

  3. Mucosa

  4. Muscle layer

  5. Adventitia and/or serosa

  6. Aschoff crypts (diverticula)

Draw and annotate:

A line diagram of the gallbladder.

Simple columnar epithelial cells. Also indicate the connective tissue layer that these cells rest on.

Reflection:
  1. How are the lateral borders of the cells determined?
  2. Where are the nuclei located and what are their shape?
  3. What is the appearance of the free surface of these cells? What is absent from the free surface of these cells?
  4. What type of epithelium lines the gallbladder?
  5. What layers form the mucosa?
  6. How are the muscle layers arranged?
  7. Adventitia and/or serosa? Explain.
